What is Guava? / How to make Pasteles de Guayaba Recipe
While in a local grocery store I stumbled upon guayaba, a small green fruit, vaguely pear like in shape. I snatched up a few only to realize that they were actually just Guava, labeled under their Spanish name. Still, I learned a great deal about them. I had no clue, for example, that they pack nearly four times the amount of vitamin C as oranges! Or that they can be grown indoors in pots, in temperate climates. ; Then it was time to eat. I went on to making my own variation of Pastiles de Guayaba, a sweet treat that relied on cooking down the guava into a paste, and then using it to fill some puff pastry, along with cream cheese. Enjoy!
